Former Aberdeen striker Chris Maguire has been suspended by Lincoln City after being hit with FA charges relating to a breach of betting rules.
Maguire, who has two Scotland caps, is alleged to have placed 52 bets on matches between March 2017 and February 2022 during which time he was playing for the Imps, Sunderland, Bury and Oxford United. The 33-year-old has until next Tuesday to respond to the misconduct charge and was last night suspended by his club ”until further notice”.
A statement from the Football Association said: "Chris Maguire has been charged with misconduct in relation to an alleged breach of the FA's betting rules. It is alleged that the Lincoln City FC forward breached FA rule E8 by placing 52 bets on football matches between 17 March 2017 and 12 February 2022." Maguire has yet to score after three appearances in this season and made the switch to the League One club last summer after three years at Sunderland.
In six years at Aberdeen he scored 24 goals in 158 appearances. He would then move south of the border with Derby County.
He has also had spells at Kilmarnock, Rotherham United, Portsmouth and Coventry City. A Lincoln statement said: "Chris has been suspended by Lincoln City without prejudice until further notice."
