Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo Says He’ll Retire If Diamondbacks Beat Phillies in Game 7

Sports radio legend Chris “Mad Dog” Russo has always captivated his audience with his bombastic personality and grandioso proclamations.

His latest take on his Monday afternoon radio show on SiriusXM may be one of his best to date. This time, it was about the Diamondbacks, who faced a 3–2 NLCS deficit on Monday before forcing a Game 7 with a win against the Phillies later that night.

“I’ve been wrong on Arizona from day one,” Russo said on SiriusXM radio on Monday. “I would not be stunned if they won tonight [Game 6], I would be floored. And I’ll say this right now, and [New York Daily News columnist] Bob Raissman, write it down, if they win the next two games and win this series in seven games … if they win, I will retire on the spot.”

It’s safe to say that on Tuesday morning, Russo is now one step closer to a potential retirement.

The Diamondbacks trounced the Phillies 5–1 on Monday night thanks to second inning home runs from Tommy Pham and Lourdes Gurriel. Starting pitcher Merrill Kelly also delivered a gem, giving up one earned run over five innings while striking out eight.

Game 7 is set for Tuesday night in Philadelphia, where the Diamondbacks will not only be contending for a World Series berth against the Rangers, but will also be putting Russo to the test to see if the 64-year-old radio Hall of Famer is a man of his word.
