Chris Kamara makes heartbreaking statement as he pulls out of show

Chris Kamara has sadly been forced to pull out of the UK’s Strongest Man due to his ongoing battle with his speech.

The much-loved 65-year-old presenter, who is best known for his work with Sky Sports suffers from apraxia of speech (AOS).

Kamara spoke out about his condition for the first time last year after he was forced to step down from his role as presenter on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday show.

The former Leeds United star told how people often thought he was “drunk” due to his slurred speech. The condition can make it difficult to pronounce words correctly.

Kamara recently opened up about his apraxia of speech diagnosis in a new ITV show called Chris Kamara: Lost for Words. The condition is a speech sound disorder whereby someone has trouble saying what they want to say consistently and correctly.

Previously speaking about it, he said: “It feels like someone has taken over my voice box. The voice that used to come out would come out at 300 miles an hour.

"You’ve seen me on the results and Soccer Saturday, motormouth, talking and not even waiting for a breath, just keep going and going. Now when I hear myself or see myself on TV it’s someone else. It’s really strange.”

And now Kammy, as he is affectionately known by fans, has taken the difficult decision to withdraw from presenting the UK’s Strongest Man area show, which he was due to front at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham later this month.

He took to Twitter to announce the sad news, Kamara penned: “Due to my ongoing speech problems I have reluctantly pulled out of presenting this year’s UK’s Strongest Man. The show will be In Nottingham this weekend. If you fancy? Please go along - it’s spectacular.”
