It seems that the Kansas City Chiefs have heard the comment coming from Cincinnati Bengals CB Mike Hilton on the sideline during the AFC divisional round.
Defensive lineman Chris Jones made a not-so-subtle reference to the trash talk as he ended his comments to the media on Friday. A reporter asked how he intended to spend his Saturday knowing that the Chiefs would play in the AFC Championship Game against the Bengals on Sunday, and Jones gave a straightforward answer before ending with what is sure to become one of his most iconic quotes.
“Rest, watch a little more film, see what else I can pick up,” Jones said of his plans for Saturday. “Eliminate all distractions.”
With a slight lean toward the steps down from the podium, he ended with a few words that gave more insight than anything else he could have possibly said.
“Take care, see y’all at Burrowhead Stadium.”
Clearly, Jones has taken the Bengals’ banter personally in his preparation for this matchup. He was already motivated by his failure to sack Joe Burrow in the playoffs last season, but he will be particularly motivated to wreak havoc in Cincinnati’s backfield on Sunday. If he manages to get to Burrow in the pocket, he could record his first career playoff sack in the Chiefs’ most important game of the season to this point, and earn Kansas City the right to compete for their second Super Bowl title in four years.
