Chris Hughton has praised the “marvellous” job Steve Cooper has done at Nottingham Forest, as he opened up about his own difficult reign at the City Ground.
Cooper replaced Hughton as the Reds manager last season, with Forest bottom of the Championship. But he inspired a remarkable turnaround, leading the club to promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs.
And he is leading their survival bid in the top-flight this season, with the Reds two places above the relegation zone with 11 matches left to play. Speaking to FourFourTwo, Hughton said: “It was a really challenging spell.

“In my first season there, I thought we were competitive, but that summer we lost 11 players and another four weren’t in my plans.
“The second new signing came in the day before the first league match and we didn’t have the rhythm I was looking for.
“It wasn’t a great time for me, but I must say this: not too many managers could have come in and done the marvellous job that Steve Cooper has done at the City Ground.”
