Chris Hemsworth shares the real reason he took a break from acting following health concern

Chris Hemsworth has clarified the comments he made about taking a break from acting after discovering his predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease.

The 39-year-old was filming his Disney+ docuseries Limitless when he found out he is “between eight and 10 times” likelier to develop the neurological disorder than the general population due to his genetic make-up.

Following the discovery, the Thor star revealed he was taking a step back from Hollywood in an interview with Vanity Fair last November but now the Ghostbusters actor has said his comments were “blown out of proportion”.

Sharing the real reason why he has streamlined his work commitments, Hemsworth told ET: “I wanted to take [time] off because I’ve been working for 10 years, and I’ve got three kids that I want to spend more time with.

“I’ve been running from project to project for a long time, just to avoid being unemployed or that fear that it’s the last job you’ll get, you know?

“I want to be more curated about the choices I make, things I immerse myself in or I’m involved in. I want to have greater value and work with great people.”

The Australian star is currently working on four different projects, including another instalment of the Avengers, as well as an untitled biopic about wrestling icon Hulk Hogan.

Earlier this week, Hemsworth was pictured in New York for the premiere of Extraction 2, the sequel to the 2020 action thriller of the same name.

Elsewhere, Hemsworth has shared his appreciation for wife Elsa Pataky and credited the Spanish actress for his success both personally and professionally.

The Spiderhead star married Pataky in 2010 and together they share an 11-year-old daughter, India, and nine-year-old twin sons, Tristan and Sasha.

Opening up about his relationship with 46-year-old Pataky, he told British GQ that one of the reasons they work so well together is that they both have the desire to “have a good time, to laugh and be involved in new adventures”.

He also confessed that he would not have achieved the level of success that he has without her.

“Her sacrifice, commitment, work, support, forgiveness – everything that she has given me over the years has been incredible. I couldn’t have done any of the things I’ve done without it,” he said.

The actor went on to add that his life has moved “so fast”, before recalling a point in their marriage where he ultimately felt closer to his wife.

“We were having kids [at] the same time my career was taking off, same time we were getting married, same time we were getting to know each other,” he said.

“It feels like we got to know each other halfway through our relationship, five, six years ago. In a beautiful way. Once our kids were out of nappies, things became a bit more manageable.”
