Chris Hemsworth is taking a step back from his acting career after a health discovery during filming for a recent project.
The actor, 39, decided it's time to spend more time with his family after he confronted his own health for Disney+ docu-series Limitless.
Chris recently discovered he is genetically predisposed to Alzheimer's and he confronted his "own mortality" on the show.
Speaking about the episode, the Hollywood star told Vanity Fair it's now important he takes a break to be with his loved ones. He said: "Doing an episode on death and facing your own mortality made me go, 'Oh God, I'm not ready to go yet'.
"I want to sit and be in this space with a greater sense of stillness and gratitude. And then you start talking about kids and family..."
Chris went on to explain how doing the show "really triggered something in me", prompting him to take an unforced break from the limelight.
He's since completed his contractual obligations and pencilled in a "good chunk of time of" to enjoy with wife Elsa Pataky and their three kids, India, 10, and twins Sasha and Tristan, 8.
After blood samples were taken prior to the show, the actor was told he is between eight and 10 times more likely to develop Alzheimer's than the general population. He was informed this was due to him being one of only two to three percent of people globally who have two copies of the gene APOE4.
However, it is possible to take steps to reduce the risk, including ensuring he has a good night's sleep, cutting back on alcohol consumption, and not smoking.
The show was set up to push Chris against his body's boundaries. It shows him taking part in a number of physical activities, including his 40lb weight gain for a Thor film.
Chris has previously been linked with the vacant James Bond role, coming up against the likes of Harry Styles and Ewan McGregor as named favourites.
It comes after Daniel Craig hung up his suave suit and called it a day as the super agent after five films. Elsewhere in the running, Dwayne The Rock Johnson has spoke out about the possibility of playing the part.
He told LadBible last month: "I see myself as James Bond. F*** the villain! An American Bond? It can happen, right? It’s like Henry Cavill playing Superman."
