Chris Hemsworth and his famous brothers donate $1 million to Australian bushfires battle

Chris, Luke and Liam Hemsworth are the latest celebrities to donate cash to firefighters battling Australian bushfires.

The famous siblings - who are from Melbourne - have pledged $1 million (£520,000), with Chris announcing their decision in a video posted on Instagram.

"The bushfires in Australia have caused massive devastation," he says in the clip. "They continue to burn and there's warmer weather on its way.

"We're really still in the thick of it here and there are plenty of challenging times to come."

In the caption next to the clip, Chris explains that his family want to support the “organisations and charities who are working flat out to provide support and relief during this devastating and challenging time.”

He has also encouraged his followers to donate whatever they can, writing: “My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully you guys can chip in too.

“Every penny counts so whatever you can muster up is greatly appreciated. In my bio I’ve added links to support the firefighters, organisations and charities who are working flat out to provide support and relief during this devastating and challenging time.”

Chris added that is family are “beyond appreciative to everyone around the world for their well wishes and donations.”

“It really does make a difference, so dig deep! Love ya,” he wrote.

Earlier this week, Kylie Minogue and her family donated $500,000 to firefighting efforts.

Her fellow singing superstar Pink also pledged the same amount earlier this month while US-based model Kaylen Ward has raised over $700,000 by selling naked photos for charity.

On Sunday night, numerous stars at the Golden Globes used their time on stage to praise the firefighters battling blazes in Australia and call for action on climate change.
