Chris Eubank Jr wears rainbow armband at weigh-in ahead of Liam Smith fight

Chris Eubank Jr has made a point to Liam Smith by wearing a rainbow armband following their personal exchanges during yesterday's press conference.

The middleweights will meet in the ring at the AO Arena in Manchester on Saturday night.

The son of boxing Legend Chris Eubank Snr put on the armband, which is a sign of support to the LGBTQ+ community, after weighing in today for the upcoming bout.

Eubank Jr posted an image of himself wearing the armband on social media this afternoon, and said: "We don’t discriminate…we don’t alienate. We want boxing & sport as a whole, to be all inclusive."

His gesture comes after comments made by Smith during yesterday’s controversial media event. Smith said to Eubank Jr: "You go on about girls mate, has anybody in this room ever seen you with a girl?

“Have you got something to tell us, really? Because you’re 33. For no laughs or nothing...do you wanna tell us something? Because nobody in this room has ever seen you with a woman.”

Eubank Jr replied: "Listen, my private life is my private life. That’s irrelevant to the boxing. I’m happy, I’m comfortable.”

He went on to say to Smith: "If you want to get dark and personal with it - talking about being gay, and do I like girls - I've been told by multiple sources that you cheat on your wife on occasion. Glass houses mate. Let's just relax. I'd rather be gay than a cheat, how about that?"

The exchanges led to Sky Sports issuing an apology. Eubank Jr later added that he thought that Liam Smith had embarrassed himself during the verbal altercation.

Promoter Ben Shalom insisted that BOXXER did not condone the behaviour from either man, and added: "Tensions were high and the fighters have apologised. Liam has apologised".

Both fighters have faced criticism for overstepping the line during Thursday's press conference. At the end of the live coverage on Sky, presenter Anna Woolhouse apologised for ‘offensive language’ and ‘homophobic’ remarks.
