Chris Eubank Jr MISSES weight and hit with massive fine ahead of Conor Benn showdown

Chris Eubank Jr failed to make weight ahead of his showdown with Conor Benn and has been hit with a $500,000 fine.

There will be a typically high-profile ceremonial weigh-in later on Friday but the two fighters took to the scales earlier in the day for the official check.

Conor Benn weighed in at 156.4lbs, nearly four pounds under the middleweight limit, before Eubank kept everyone waiting for more than an hour.

He weighed in at 160.2lbs on his first attempt, then at 160.05lbs on his second and final attempt. As a result of failing to come in under the 160lbs limit, he will receive the huge penalty.

Both fighters will be on the scales again on Saturday morning at around 8am, with a rehydration clause in place for this bout.

Neither man can come in at over 170lbs for that second weight check, and Eubank has revealed he faces a $1m fine if he does so.

Weight has unsurprisingly not been an issue for Benn in the build-up to this fight, with the 28-year-old having spent much of his career at 147lbs.

"I'm still 156 so I've come in as a light middle, but ultimately I live for this, it's what I do,” Benn said.

"I don't care what he does. Nothing is about him, it's about how I've prepared, what I've done, and how I've made weight, he can come in however he wants and however he looks, it's no concern to me.

"I'll stay light, stay fast, stay sharp, stay accurate. I'm not a middleweight, I won't come in heavy. I'm a welterweight so I'll focus on being light, fast and dangerous."

Eubank, meanwhile, has had his last three fights at middleweight, but before that was challenging at 168lbs.

He has spoken of the challenge that comes with cutting down to 160lbs, one that is only added to by the 10-pound rehydration clause.

"I actually have no idea how my body's going to react,” Eubank said. “It's something I've never done before.

"Usually I put on around 14lbs after a weigh-in. In this instance I can only put on 10.

"So I have a decision. I can either restrict what I'm eating or drinking so I can make the 10lb limit the day of the fight or I rehydrate as normal, get up to my 14lbs as usual then cut the weight on the day.

"I don't know which one I'm going to do. It's going to be an on-the-day decision, however I feel is going to be best for my body and my spirit at that moment in time. We will see.”
