Chris Eubank Jr confirms next opponent - and it’s not Conor Benn

Chris Eubank Jr has confirmed he will meet Liam Smith at London’s O2 Arena in September.

The two fought in January with Smith inflicting the first stoppage defeat on Eubank Jr’s career with a devastating display in Manchester.

A rematch had initially been scheduled for June before an injury to Smith delayed the rematch and it was again pushed back from a date in July.

There had then been suggestions Eubank could finally meet Conor Benn at either Wembley or the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, depending on Benn’s doping verdict.

Still, Eubank’s Kalle Sauerland promoter told Boxing Social: “’How can I have a discussion about Connor Benn when I don’t know a verdict?

“I can’t hedge Jr’s career on a verdict. It’s a massive fight, bigger than before, but right now it’s not on the table, just like when people asked me if it was happening in Abu Dhabi.

“There were no offers on the table. People thought I was playing a game but did it happen? No.”

Taking to Twitter, Eubank wrote: “Eubank vs Smith 2 at the 02 September 2nd @LiamBeefySmith #LetsDoThis #NoMoreExcuses #Revenge.”
