British boxing promoter Ben Shalom has revealed that Chris Eubank Jr has agreed a 55-45 per cent purse split for blockbuster British clash with fierce rival Conor Benn.
Chris Eubank Jr Agreed 55-45 Purse Split For Conor Benn Clash
A potential clash between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn has been spoken of for around three years now, if not longer. As of today, the pair of British boxing rivals still haven’t fought, despite both men wanting to carry on the Eubank vs Benn family rivalry dating back three decades.
Now however, it seems fans could begin to get excited, as the fight has moved another step closer to being officially announced. The British blockbuster showdown may finally happen in 2025, after Chris Eubank Jr has reportedly accepted a 55-45 per cent purse split in his favour.
That’s according to promoter Ben Shalom, who had meetings this week with Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn, presumably discussing this fight.
Eubank Jr vs Benn was of course supposed to happen in October 2022, but then came Conor Benn‘s failed drugs test. ‘The Destroyer’ tested positive for banned substance clomifene with the fight being cancelled just days before the scheduled event, not to mention Benn’s British Boxing Board of Control licence being revoked too.
However, Benn’s suspensions were lifted just last month, with the National Anti-Doping Panel ‘not comfortably satisfied’ that the 28-year-old had committed a doping offence. This means that Conor Benn is free to box again in the UK, with talk of the Eubank Jr clash reigniting.
The welterweight prospect’s reprieve has paved a way for the two born rivals to finally battle it out in the ring once and for all. Not only that, but it seems the fight could be closer than ever with Chris Eubank Jr accepting a 55-45 purse split, despite holding all the aces for the proposed clash.
Ben Shalom: ‘This Isn’t Even Close To A 50-50 Fight’
Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom, who signed Chris Eubank Jr in 2024, has revealed in an interview with Sky Sports that ‘Next Gen’ has accepting a 55-45 per cent purse split for the proposed Conor Benn clash.
Although this is a huge step in the right direction, Shalom insists a lot of work still remains to be done, with the fight still a good bit away from being confirmed for next year:
“We have done an unbelievable job getting Chris to accept a 55 per cent fee. We’ve worked wonders. You ask anyone, they can even see it, this isn’t even close to a 50-50 fight, so the fact he’s managing to compromise on that is hugely generous from him.
“The fact they’ve [Matchroom & Team Benn] already got us down to that shows how well we’ve done. If the fight doesn’t get made now, then we know what it is,” concluded the Boxxer founder.
It remains to be seen whether the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn clash will happen once and for all in 2025. It seems the ball is in Benn’s court along with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom. Could the two sons reignite the rivalry of their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, and settle their difference once and for all?
Time will tell whether the Eubank Jr vs Benn fight happens in 2025 or not. If it does, Eubank Jr will likely go into the bout as the slight favourite with the best boxing betting sites in the UK, with Benn an outsider.
