LONDON – Underestimated. That’s how Chris Duncan is feeling ahead of his return to the octagon.
The Scottish fighter makes his fifth UFC appearance this Saturday, fighting Jordan Vucenic at UFC Fight Night 255 (ESPN+), which takes place at The O2 in London. Even though Vucenic (13-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has no wins under his belt in the UFC, and Duncan (12-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) has a lot more experience in the company, Duncan enters the bout as high as a +360 underdog on some betting houses.
Duncan isn’t sure why this is the case, and assures people he’s not going to be a walk in the park for Vucenic.
“He’s an amazing fighter, let’s be honest, but so am I,” Duncan said at Thursday’s UFC Fight Night 255 media day. “It’s a great matchup and I just said before, we’re both in the UFC, we just need to make a name for ourselves.
“I’m impressed by him, and I’m sure he’s impressed by me. I don’t know if it’s the media, but I just get the vibe that everyone thinks he’s just going to walk through me, and that’s not going to be the case.”
All in all, Duncan is proud of his body of work in the UFC, despite maybe some thinking he hasn’t shown enough to be favored over Vucenic.
“It’s good. I’m 3-1, so it’s pretty good,” Duncan said. “I would’ve liked to have more fights just due to, I like moving forward, going with the hype, rolling on.”
Duncan is focused on Saturday’s bout, and hasn’t looked ahead about what may come in the future. One thing is certain, he’d like to be more active.
“I haven’t even thought past Saturday,” Duncan said. “The only thing I have coming up is my daughter’s birthday on May 4. I’d like another fight or two. Miami [April 12] would be quick, I don’t even know what date that is, maybe end of April. Or maybe even fight on the undercard of Dustin (Poirier), another teammate of mine.”
