Chris Burke will be parting company with Kilmarnock after five years.
The veteran winger will be moving on from Rugby Park after he was offered a full-time coaching role.
The 38-year-old has rejected the offer in favour of continuing as a player, but he has thanked Killie for their help over the years.
He told Sky Sports: "I went away on holiday, gathered my thoughts and everyone knew I'd been offered a coaching role at the club.
"It was a fantastic opportunity I had been given, I have a great relationship with Kilmarnock.
"But it was probably just the wrong job at the wrong time, once I reflected about what I want to do, I still have that burning desire to play football and remain competitive at first team level and hopefully offer something to a club.
"I had a great five seasons, I can't speak highly enough of the club, and the way it's handled.
"I just think sometimes fairytales do end, but it's ended in a good way, I just want to see the club do well."
He added: "Everyone I speak to says you're a long time retired, I would rather put the decision on myself to decide when I am done.
"You make a lot of sacrifices the older you get, I am willing to make them though.
"For me, I am still looking to win and be competitive every single day, my body still feels good."
