Mabior Chol has done a fine job filling Ben King's shoes while a trio of injuries made a bad day worse for Port Adelaide on the Gold Coast.
Chol impressed with three goals in the Suns' 11.10 (76) to 6.19 (55) defeat of the Power at Metricon Stadium in Friday's AFL practice game.
His haul comes as under-pressure coach Stuart Dew rearranges his puzzle pieces after key forward King's season-ended knee injury.
Port have some injury concerns of their own, Sam Powell-Pepper limping off with a hamstring injury issue, ruckman Scott Lycett rolling his ankle and Connor Rozee (ankle) also taken off at halftime as a precaution.
Dew would have been thrilled to see Chol mark strongly in a pack for his third goal, while 19-year-old Alex Davies stood out with two early goals alongside strong defence as he floated in and out of the midfield.
Matt Rowell was also impressive as he aims to put two injury-marred seasons behind him, while Noah Anderson, Touk Miller and Jeremy Sharp were among the Suns' best.
Davies' first-quarter dominance caught the eye though, the teenager from Cairns in the thick of the action as he finished the term with a booming goal from 55 metres.
Port were well off the pace under gloomy skies, their second goal coming more than two full quarters Sam Powell-Pepper had slotted their first inside the opening two minutes.
There were 13 behinds and three injury scares in between and assistant coach Brett Montgomery admitted they were well beaten by their hosts.
"We didn't find anywhere near that shift; they were ready to play and found AFL intensity very quickly," he said.
"Pepp looked like he had a reasonable, obvious hamstring ... it looked pretty straight up and down.
"Rozee's was a minor strain ... Lycett, his looked a little worse but we'll have to wait and see."
Charlie Dixon and Orazia Fantasia were the Power's only key omissions.
Port's first-round pick Josh Sinn kicked a goal while Zak Butters and Ollie Wines were among their better performers.
For the Suns, Jack Lukosius (achilles) and Jarrod Witts (knee) were both left out of the side under caution but are both strong chances to feature in round one.
