Choking alert issued over baby's 'soother' holder sold to Irish parents

Irish parents are being told to stop using a soother holder sold online due to fears it may cause their babies or young children to choke.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission of Ireland has issued a product safety information notice in relation to the product which is sold on a number of different online sites.

The CCPC says the risk associated with the Mushie Soother Holder is that of choking.

"One of the natural wood beads can break into several small parts, which can be placed in the mouth by a young child and swallowed. The small parts can block the respiratory tract and cause the child to suffocate. The thickness of the cord is also insufficient," they said in the notice.

The brand of the product is Mushie and the type/number of model is CLEO. The batch number is unknown. The barcode is 7426999778646.

There are approximately 445 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

"If you purchased one of these products, please discontinue use immediately and keep it out of the reach of children," the CCPC has warned.

"You may wish to contact the online store from where you purchased this product to see if there are any remedies available to you."
