Cho Gue Sung to Celtic transfer excitement builds as Alan Shearer admits 'I'd be proud' of World Cup double

Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Cho Gue-Sung amid his links to Celtic - as Gary Lineker suggested the legendary striker would be happy with some of his strikes.

The South Korean forward has put his name in lights at the World Cup in Qatar with two headed goals for his country this week against Ghana before taking on Portugal in their final Group H clash. And in their preview for the match on BBC One, Host Lineker and co were running the rule over who could be the key men in the clash.

While obvious picks of Cristiano Ronaldo and Heung min-Son were reviewed, it was Gue-Sung's name who was also mentioned as a threat. He has been reported as on the radar of Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou ahead of the winter window, and England legend Shearer likes what he sees. Lineker initially asked him: "There were two terrific headers you would have been proud of, Alan."

His response was emphatic: "Absolutely. When they put the crosses in as they do... the crossing in the first half against Ghana was pretty poor. But when it was on the money in the second half, this guy was on the end of it. He was brave but with balls in the box, he'll look to get on the end of it.

"The way he times (his jump) and climbs, he gets the connection he wants. The defender has no chance as he just hangs up there. Before this tournament he had 20k social media followers, now he has 1.2m, so he's doing something right!"
