Cho Gue Sung bins Celtic summer transfer talk as he takes new approach to cope with European noise

Cho Gue-Sung says any talk of an impending move to Celtic or anywhere else in Europe has been put firmly on the backburner as he looks to regain his World Cup form.

The striker scored 17 times in the K-League in 2022 before netting for South Korea at the World Cup in December. It attracted a lengthy transfer saga where Celtic were one of the key competitors for his signature, alongside clubs in Germany and America. But eventually he stayed put at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Ange Postecoglou signed countryman Oh.

Last week, Gue-Sung claimed he had not regrets over turning down a move Celtic amid criticism over his fitness levels. Now in his bid to lift those, he's been told to relax, with a move across continents blocked out. He told Naver: "It seems that my body is getting stronger because I think I have to score a goal. Coaches keep telling me to relax, but it's not easy.

"To be honest, I kept thinking, 'I want to go to Europe' and 'I have to do better to go to Europe.' But now that I think about it, that's not the motto of my life.

"Why are you wishing for this right now' So right now, I train, play, and train again tomorrow, so I'm trying hard every day to live again. I don't think of anything else. To be honest, I'm just grateful that the coach keeps putting me up like this and letting me keep playing. I think you have to work hard for it.”
