Chloe Kelly scores winner as England beat Germany 2-1 to win Women's Euro 2022 final

England have won the Women’s Euro 2022 final against Germany at Wembley Stadium.

In front of more than 87,000 fans - a record crowd for a men’s or women’s Euros final - England beat Germany 2-1 in a dramatic finish.

Chloe Kelly scored the winning goal, poking home from close range five minutes into the second half of extra time. Germany failed to clear their lines from a corner and Manchester City forward Kelly was on hand to take full advantage.

Ella Toone put the Lionesses ahead just after the hour mark, keeping her cool to chip the ball over the on-rushing Germany goalkeeper Merle Frohms to send the crowd into raptures.

Germany equalised 11 minutes from time through Lina Magull to force extra time. It looked as if penalties were on the agenda - just as they were when England’s men lost to Italy in the Euros final last year - before Kelly’s late strike created history.

Midfielder Jill Scott, an England player for the past 16 years and veteran of 10 tournaments, said at fulltime: "I can't believe it! It's such a privilege to be a part of this. What a day!

"The younger players have been fantastic, playing with freedom. The celebrations are going to be big and I don't think I'm going to sleep this week!"
