Chloe Jade Mason’s Family Speaks Out After Two Men Charged Over Her Murder

CONTENT WARNING: Content in this article may be distressing.

The family of Chloe Jade Mason, the 23-year-old woman who was shot dead in Queensland last December, have spoken out following the arrest of two brothers who’ve both been charged with murder.

Just after midnight on December 22, 2024, emergency services were called to Railway Parade in Caboolture where they found an unresponsive woman, who was later identified to be Mason.

Despite rescue efforts to resuscitate Mason, she was unable to be saved and was declared dead at the scene.

Police alleged that two men chased down Mason, assaulted her and then fatally shot her in a “targeted attack”. They also said it is believed that Mason and the men knew each other prior to the alleged murder.

On Monday, January 6, 2025, Queensland authorities confirmed that two men — who have since been identified as Codye Thomson, 29, and Kaine Thomson-Gleeson, 32, by ABC News — were arrested in connection to Mason’s murder.

“A 29-year-old Marsden man and a 32-year-old Caboolture man were arrested without incident in parkland off Civic Parade, Logan around 2pm,” police shared.

Shortly after, it was revealed that both men had been charged with one count of murder.

“Investigators have worked tirelessly to locate the accused and police appreciate the assistance we have received from the community,” Detective Inspector David Harbison said, following the arrests.

The arrest comes two weeks after Queensland Police shared a public appeal where they released the images of the pair and CCTV footage of the alleged incident.

While reflecting on her sister’s murder and the recent arrests, Dani Mason told 9News she was “still processing the emotions”.

“I’m not upset today, I’m happy,” she told the publication.

“Someone needs to be held accountable, it’s been too many weeks of pain and suffering for my family.

“Obviously, nothing can ever bring my sister back, but she always said ‘It’s not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you again.’

“We can start the year off with less unanswered questions and that’s a bit of a weight off everyone’s shoulders, I guess.”

According to ABC News, the brothers were interviewed as witnesses the day Mason died and were released without charge.

Following their release, the pair allegedly left Queensland and went down to Kempsey, New South Wales to visit family. They also claim the brothers were roughing it out as police-issued warrants for the duo.

The brothers are set to face Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
