Chippy 90 minutes from Edinburgh loved by royalty named one of UK's best by National Geographic

We all love our chippies in the East - especially when it gets to this time of year when the sun comes out and we look to head to the beach.

Of course, we have a number of excellent fish and chip shops right here in Edinburgh, but there several brilliant coastal spots where you can enjoy some of Scotland's best seafood too.

And according to famous travel magazine National Geographic, it might be worth taking a trip from the capital to enjoy one of the best chippies in Britain.

They've just published their guide to the nine best fish and chip shops in the UK - and there's only a couple of Scottish places that get the nod, including a legendary foodie heaven on the Fife coast.

Nat Geo writers have given the serial-award winning Anstruther Fish Bar the nod, thanks to the likes of its lemon sole, hugely popular haddock - and even battered black pudding.

The popular seaside spot has made headlines before - in 2021 Prince William and Kate Middleton stopped by for some dinner, claiming it to be their favourite fish and chip eatery having made regular visits during their time at St Andrew's University.

Here's what the magazine had to say: "Overlooking the harbour that’s the source of most of its menu, this multi-award-winner shouts loudly about its hand-filleting, sustainable practices and sourcing.

"Haddock is the mainstay, but there’s also lemon sole, but the local Pittenweem prawns and line-caught mackerel are well worth checking out when they’re on menu — ditto the battered black pudding.

"And for those unfamiliar with local pronunciations, the business’s social media handle is spelt phonetically in dialect."

Elsewhere in Scotland - on the west coast - Oban Fish and Chips was highlighted as food spot offering 'much more than just cod and haddock.'
