Chinese woman hospitalized after howling uncontrollably at Avengers: Endgame

How emotional is Avengers: Endgame? It sent one person to hospital.

(Don't worry, there are no spoilers in this story!)

The final installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it is here, and some fans are having a hard time dealing with it. One Chinese woman ended up howling uncontrollably at the cinema to the point that she was immediately hauled off to the emergency room after hyperventilating, according to Chinese media.

At the movie's midnight premiere on Wednesday, the 21-year-old college student cried so much that she started to feel chest pain and struggled to breathe. Before she was carried onto an ambulance, she was hit by muscle spasms in her arms and legs, with her fingers stuck in a clutching position.

Doctors later said they had to put an oxygen mask on her in order to help calm her emotions and reduce her hyperventilation. The woman has been released from the hospital now.

Avengers: Endgame hit China's cinemas at midnight Wednesday morning, two days ahead of its US release. Earth's Mightiest Heroes have already shattered all previous records for box office debuts in China, topping out at around US$107 million.

The movie was extremely hot before it was even released. Advanced ticket sales for the film in China surpassed $74.5 million, another record the movie now holds.

People's affection for the Avengers can be seen on social media. On the day of its release, almost half of the most-searched topics on Weibo were related to Avengers: Endgame.

But all those fans posting online have nothing on the woman from Ningbo who was hospitalized over her reaction to the movie. She is clearly on another level.

"She's absolutely a die-hard fan," one Weibo user wrote.

Many netizens are shocked by the woman's strong reaction. A popular comment said, "Sister, you have clearly projected yourself too much into this movie."

Other online comments showed more sympathy for the woman and praised the movie as a well-executed tearjerker.

Trying to restrain from spoiling the story, a Weibo user wrote in a widely upvoted comment, "She must be reacting that way after she watched the so-and-so scene. 😭😭Because after that so-and-so scene, I also wanted to bawl 😭😭. I really wish that so-and-so can continue so-and-so."
