China has recently executed two individuals responsible for separate deadly attacks that shocked the nation. Fan Weiqiu, 62, was put to death for killing 35 people by driving his car into a crowd at a sports center in Zhuhai. Just days later, Xu Jiajin, 21, was executed for a stabbing rampage that claimed eight lives on a college campus in Wuxi.
The surge in violent incidents targeting random members of the public has raised concerns in China, a country known for its low violent crime rates and strict surveillance measures. These attacks have been attributed to various personal grievances, including dissatisfaction with exam results and internship compensation.
The swift executions of the perpetrators reflect the Chinese government's commitment to maintaining public safety and deterring future acts of violence. President Xi Jinping condemned the attacks as 'extremely vicious' and called for severe punishment for the offenders.

While China does not disclose the total number of executions carried out annually, human rights organizations estimate that the country ranks among the top in terms of capital punishment. The executions of Fan and Xu have garnered widespread support on Chinese social media, with many users expressing satisfaction at the swift justice delivered.
These incidents serve as a reminder of the challenges posed by sporadic acts of violence in a country that prides itself on its low crime rates and stringent security measures. The government's response to these attacks underscores its commitment to maintaining social stability and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
