What’s new: The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country’s top political advisory body, has decided to revoke the membership of three arms and aerospace executives, state media reported.
The CPPCC made the decision at a Chairperson’s Council meeting Wednesday and submitted it to the fifth standing committee session for confirmation, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
The executives are Wu Yansheng, chairman and Communist Party chief of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp.; Liu Shiquan, chairman and party secretary of China North Industries Group Corp. Ltd.; and Wang Changqing, deputy general manager of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. Ltd.
The broadcaster did not cite a reason for the CPPCC’s decision in its report.
The background: The decision to remove the leaders of the state-run missile-makers follows a number of major shakeups in the military this year.
China unveiled new leadership for the missile force in charge of the country’s nuclear arsenal in late July. Wang Houbin was named head of the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force, while Xu Xisheng became its new political commissar.
In October, Li Shangfu was removed as China’s defense minister, barely seven months after being appointed in March.
