Chilling moment white couple pull guns on peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters

This is the chilling moment a married couple pull guns on protesters during a peaceful Black Lives Matter demonstration in the US.

The pair brandished a handgun and an automatic weapon at the gathering which took place in St Louis, Missouri, on Sunday.

Reports say that around 300 people had broken down the entrance of a gated community and had attempted to march past when the confrontation took place.

The gun-toting couple, named locally as lawyers Mark and Patricia McCloskey, angrily warned protesters to stay away from their home in the wealthy, predominantly white neighbourhood of Forest Park.

One video circulating on social media shows the woman holding her gun at a protester wearing a 'Hands up, don't shoot' t-shirt.

Mr McCloskey was seen prowling the perimeter of his home barefoot as he brandished an AR-15 assault rifle.

His wife warned protesters to stay back as she angrily pointed the weapon at the demonstrators who had gathered near her home.

The crowd had apparently been en-route to the the home of mayor Lyda Krewson's home to demand her resignation.

Krewson had released names and addresses of more than 40,000 people who had signed a petition to defund the police as Black Live Matter protests continue to trouble the US.

On Friday night, Mayor Lyda Krewson apologised for the data leak.

"In an effort to be transparent and accessible to the public during the Covid-19 pandemic, for more than three months now I have been doing tri-weekly community updates on Facebook

"Tonight, I would like to apologize for identifying individuals who presented letters to me at City Hall as I was answering a routine question during one of my updates earlier today.

"While this is public information, I did not intend to cause distress or harm to anyone. The post has been removed."

The killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer last month has spawned a wave of protests and national soul-searching over systemic racism in the United States.

Last week a man died and another person was injured in a shooting in a park in Kentucky, where protests have been held over the police killing of Breonna Taylor.

Breonna Taylor was shot dead by police at her home in Louisville in March.

Footage shared on social media appears to show a gunman opening fire as terrified witnesses run for cover.

It is not yet known if any arrests were made following the shooting in Jefferson Square Park.

A second victim is being treated in hospital, police said.

The park has been a centre for protests against the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old emergency medical technician, was killed on March 13 after officers entered her apartment bearing a "no-knock" arrest warrant.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said: "It is a tragedy that this area of peaceful protest is now a crime scene."

One of the three officers involved in her shooting was dismissed from the police department on Tuesday.
