Chilling video shows the moment a reckless driver narrowly missed a young girl as he tried to overtake on a zebra crossing.
Louis Boyce, 22, was caught on camera during the near-miss, which happened as the child walked with her siblings.
The family was crossing the road in Castle Bromwich, West Midlands, when Boyce tried to drive around another vehicle, Birmingham Live reports.
Dashcam footage of the incident, which happened on May 4, 2020, shows the terrifying near-tragedy.
The young girl’s dad initially stopped Boyce from going further by putting his hand on the bonnet - but the reckless driver quickly revved his engine and sped off.
Footage of the incident was released on social media at the time in an attempt to identify the driver - which later led to Boyce handing himself in.
He answered no comment throughout his police interview, despite being identified by several witnesses.
Boyce appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on December 8 and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and having no insurance.
He was jailed on Friday for 42 weeks and banned from driving for two years.
Ryan Hodgins, prosecuting, said a couple and their four children - aged ten, eight, five and three - had been out for a walk and were returning home before the incident.
The children's mum said she had heard Boyce "screeching to a halt" and initially thought he had hit her partner's legs.
PC Abbi Jones, of West Midlands Police's Road Harm Prevention Team, said: “Boyce’s driving was dangerous, reckless and could have cost a young life. Fortunately, on this occasion, nobody was hurt.
“The footage caused public outrage at the time, and the online community pulled together to make sure that Boyce was identified and held accountable for his actions.
"Officers from our team reached out to the victims and commenced our investigation, which led to this conviction.
“I hope this serves as a warning that driving in this manner will not be tolerated on our roads.
"We will take action to hold those who drive dangerously accountable.”
