Chilling Emmerdale scene compared to Casualty as horror injuries exposed

Emmerdale viewers compared the ITV soap to BBC's Casualty after Monday night's chilling flash-forward which took place in a hospital.

The show started with a cinematic blue-tinted scene filming from the perspective of a hospital patient, as doctors and nurses give them urgent treatment and putting a gas mask over their face.

"999, what's your emergency please?" asks an operator, and a tearful male voice replies: "We need an ambulance at Emmerdale village as soon as possible, there's been an accident."

"Multiple casualties, initiate majax protocol," a professional can be heard saying, as well as "blunt trauma to the head".

Majax means "major incident" in hospitals, so the staff were referring to the stunt which leaves residents' lives hanging in the balance.

The scene then finished and next up was a flirting Mandy Dingle showing off her wedding day garter to Paul Ashdale ahead of their big day.

Viewers already know the flash-forward comes after the soap has a dramatic stunt planned this week, on Paul and Mandy's wedding day, which leaves four characters fighting for their lives and at least one dead.

One viewer tweeted: "Tonight's #Emmerdale opening mixed with the #Casualty theme tune works so well.".

"It’s like an episode of casualty! #emmerdale," added another, while a third wrote: "Thought I’d tuned into Holby City for a sec!! #Emmerdale ".

Another remarked: "A MAJAX? Sounds well serious!! Maybe it’s Paul who has the unusual accident. All of his other incarnations have gone the same way. #Emmerdale ".

A fifth wrote: "HOSPITAL TRAUMA SCENES OHMYGOD FJRJDJSJ NERVOUS #Emmerdale " while another commented: "Felt like we were watching A Movie just then #Emmerdale ".

Emmerdale actor Reece Dinsdale, who plays Paul Ashdale, said on This Morning the production for the stunt is "fantastically done".

‘"At the beginning you see three beds and you don’t see who’s in them, but you might see who is visiting those beds," he explained.

"Then by the end of this week the stunt comes to a conclusion, and I think a fourth member of the cast, one of the characters, is wheeled through as well.

"So we’ve got one of four who could meet their end."

* Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7pm on ITV with extra episode on Thursdays at 8pm
