Children's entertainers dressed as Paw Patrol characters 'held hostage and racially abused' at birthday party

Police were called to a four-year-old's birthday party after three entertainers dressed as Paw Patrol characters said they were racially abused and held hostage.

The three women - Ebonie Gooding, 28, her sister Tamara, 29, and her cousin Rosie Trumpet, 31 - were booked to work at the party near Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.

The garden party was in a caravan camp in Little Billington, The Sun reported.

Ms Gooding told how the women - dressed as Chase, Marshall and Skye from the hit Channel 5 cartoon series - were attacked by a mob of primary school-aged children who started kicking and punching them.

Rosie said she had her costume head kicked off and a five-year-old screamed racist abuse at her.

The women said a young child also grabbed a microphone and repeatedly shouted racial slurs.

🎉 Hi guys. So this is going to be quite long winded. I can’t believe I’m having to even write a status like this. But...

"We kept doing crying gestures to get them to calm down," Ms Gooding, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, said. "No one was controlling them and they were just being allowed to attack us."

The group, from Meet and Greet Events, tried to escape in their car but parents shut the gates.

"The dad put his van in front of my car to stop us leaving," Ms Gooding told the Standard.

"I was petrified. One of my staff had a panic attack."

After calling 999, Ms Gooding said three riot vans and three police cars arrived on the scene.

"There were so many police," she said. "It was surreal and felt so over the top for a four-year-old’s birthday party but I can understand why they did not want to take any chances."

Ms Gooding, a mother-of-one, said the children at the party were "beyond wild" and "terrifying".

"We just couldn’t believe how quickly things got out of control," she said.

"The racial abuse would have been disgusting from adults but from children it was just unbelievable."

Ms Gooding, who has been running the company for a year, said the birthday boy's parents demanded their £80 deposit back for the £400 booking and she is still owed £320.

"We are not going to let this stop us," she told the Standard. "We have received backlash online from people who said what happened to us was justified.

"It's disgusting, especially with the Black Lives Matter movement at the moment."

After the incident, a statement on the company's Facebook page said its staff will no longer be attending any bookings without the full balance being paid.

"We’d also like to thank Bedfordshire Police who attended the scene and ensured that our team were safe and carried out the necessary actions," the company said.

The statement added: "Our aim is to give children a magical experience and we will continue doing so, just with these new changes in place.

"This experience has just made us appreciate all of the lovely families who we normally visit."

A Bedfordshire Police spokeswoman told the Standard: "Eight police officers in total attended and escorted a number of people off the premises.

"Investigations have been launched into allegations of criminal damage, assaults, threats to cause criminal damage and a public order offence."
