Children 'flourish' at nursery that bounced back after damning Ofsted report

A nursery has bounced back after a poor Ofsted rating last year.

Bees Knees Nursery in Bootle was rated as inadequate in quality of education, behavioural attitudes, personal development leadership, and management in a report published by the watchdog in March 2022. Now just over a year after their last inspection the nursery which caters to children up to five, has been given a glowing report.

Inspectors said that children "are settled, happy and feel safe" with the Park Street nursery being rated 'good' across the board. The inspection took place on March, 21.

The report said: "Since the last inspection, this nursery has flourished. The new manager has swiftly and accurately evaluated the quality of the provision. He has observed staff practice and targeted training and professional development to focus on the areas that needed to improve.

"Children thoroughly enjoy the time they spend in this positive nursery. They have built secure relationships with the staff and confidently greet visitors. They enjoy sharing moments of joy and laughter together.

"For example, children look at each other and giggle with glee as they work together to chase the toy car that is moving in the wind. Children behave well and are developing positive relationships."

The report also said that children feel safe and secure with the attachments they have made with staff. However, inspectors also said that staff can improve on promoting children's curiosity.

The report continued: "Parents speak positively about the recent changes that they have noticed in the nursery. They state that they have many opportunities to share information about their child's progress.

"Parents are clear about their children's next steps and how they are being supported to achieve this at nursery. Furthermore, parents understand how they can extend their children's learning at home. This supports continuity of children's care and education."
