A convicted child rapist died of a heart attack and cancer while in HMP Altcourse.
Frederick Graham Barber, of Causeway Crescent, Huddersfield but formerly of Anglesey in North Wales, was jailed for 17 years in 2018. Following a four-day trial at Caernarfon Crown Court, he was found to have repeatedly raped a girl over the course of a four-year period.
Barber was 77 at the time of his sentence. An investigation was launched into the death at HMP Altcourse by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman on June 17, 2022, which found the 82-year-old "died of a heart attack caused by a blockage in his heart and cancer", North Wales Live reports.

The review concluded: "The clinical care Mr Barber received at Altcourse was equivalent to that which he could have expected to receive in the community. We found no non-clinical issues of concern."
The jury had found Barber guilty of five charges of rape and five charges of indecent assault following the trial. They cleared Barber of three charges of rape.
Following Barber's sentencing, DC Shona Campbell, of North Wales Police, said it was "one of the worst cases of systematic grooming and child sexual abuse I have ever come across."
