A CHILD riding his bike near a New Lambton primary school suffered multiple injuries when he was hit by a car on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called to St James Road at 8.30am on September 17 to reports of a crash.
Police and paramedics at the scene, near the Adamstown railway gates, were told that a cyclist and car collided.
The rider of the bike, a 12-year-old boy, suffered multiple injuries including a suspected broken leg.
Paramedics treated the child at the scene before he was taken by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition. A spokesperson for Hunter New England Health has since confirmed the boy is now in a stable condition.
The driver of the car was subject to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result.
Inquiries into the incident are under way, with the Newcastle-Hunter Traffic and Highway Patrol Command leading the investigations.
As inquiries continue, anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Heavy traffic was reported in the area, with police officers blocking off one eastbound lane, but this lane has since reopened to traffic.
