Child dies after emergency near the White Cliffs of Dover

Police have confirmed that a child has died after being found near the White Cliffs of Dover. The child was taken to hospital on Monday evening but has since died, Kent Police has said.

No information has yet been given about the age of the child following the tragedy in the Swingate area between Dover and St Margaret's Bay on the Kent coast. Police, paramedics and the coastguard had all been called to the scene, KentLive reports.

A Kent police spokesman said: "Kent Police, HM Coastguard and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended an area near Swingate, Dover on the evening of Monday, April 4. A child was taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner."

Photos from the scene show police officers looking out over the cliffs, as well as an ambulance vehicle which conveyed the patient to hospital.
