A child and two adults have been rushed to hospital after a house fire in Eltham.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) managed to rescue a woman trapped by a staircase after the blaze broke out in Alderwood Road at 4.30am on Thursday.

A man and child had managed to escape the terraced house before firefighters could arrive at the scene.

All of the occupants were taken to hospital.

The roof of the building was completely destroyed as well as the majority of the first floor.

An LFB spokesman said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a house fire on Alderwood Road in Eltham.

“Half of the ground floor and most of the first floor of a mid-terraced house were damaged by fire.

“A man and a child left the building before the Brigade arrived.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman via an internal staircase. They were all taken to hospital.”

LFB said the fire was under control by 6am. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, they added.
