Just months ago, Nazeeh Johnson was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs at pick No. 259 overall in the 2022 NFL draft. Now, the former member of the Marshall Thundering Herd has been waived during the Kansas City Chiefs’ 53-man roster cuts.
The 5-10, 199-pound defensive back played safety at Marshall, where he was known as a speedy ball hawk. As a fifth-year senior in 2021, Johnson posted 67 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and five passes defended on the year.
The Chiefs converted Johnson to cornerback once he arrived in Kansas City, with the flexibility to play both outside and nickel corner. That transition has gone well during training camp and the preseason, where he competed with some of the top receivers on the team. Unfortunately, with the numbers game in the defensive back room, Johnson’s development at his new position will likely have to continue on the practice squad should he clear waivers.
