A four-star recruit at offensive tackle out of Cordova High School in Cordova, Tennessee, Carvin had offers from over a dozen different schools. He committed to Tennessee in December of 2017 and never looked back.
Carvin appeared in 12 games with five starts as a Freshman with the Volunteers. While he was a tackle coming into the program, he switched to play the interior offensive line in Knoxville.

Fit with the Chiefs
The Volunteers’ offense was the best in the nation in 2022, averaging 7.32 yards per play and 78 total touchdowns (NCAA lead). Carvin certainly contributed to that as a team captain and stalwart on the offensive line. He’s a powerful run-blocker and more nimble than he gets credit for as a pass-blocker.
Carvin boasted an uncanny level of versatility during his career at Tennessee with starts each of left guard, right guard and center. It’s that same type of interior flexibility that Nick Allegretti has become known for in Kansas City over the years. That’s certainly the role that they’ll have in mind for him for the future too.
It’s going to be tough for a player like Carvin to make the 53-man roster with the Chiefs given the logjam of interior offensive linemen ahead of him. The versatility and leadership aspect certainly won’t hurt his case, but he’s likely heading for a season on the practice squad in 2023.
