The Kansas City Chiefs are landing one of the top undrafted free agents at the wide receiver position.
According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs are set to sign former Clemson WR Justyn Ross to the 90-man offseason roster. Ross (6-3, 210 pounds) burst onto the scene as a true freshman at Clemson in 2018, recording over 40 receptions for 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games played. The following season he caught 66 passes for 865 yards and eight touchdowns for the Tigers.
During his sophomore season, Ross missed the entire year after undergoing a congenital fusion on his spine, repairing two fused vertebrae and a bulging disc. That injury is likely one of the reasons that he went undrafted.

As a redshirt junior in 2021, after returning from injury, Ross caught 46 passes for 514 yards and three touchdowns. The numbers were career lows for Ross, but he also wasn’t playing with the same level of quarterback talent as he did as a freshman and sophomore.
The Chiefs have perhaps the best training staff in the NFL, so I’m confident that they have a level of comfort and a plan for his injury. This is a boom-or-bust swing for Kansas City, though. If it works out, Ross could be a key weapon as they look to rebuild the receiving corps for a post-Tyreek Hill roster. If it doesn’t, at least they can say that they tried.
