Chiefs to release DTs Danny Shelton, Taylor Stallworth

The Kansas Chiefs need to make several more roster moves ahead of Tuesday’s 53-man roster cut deadline.

As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have released veteran DT Danny Shelton. Shelton was a late addition to the training camp roster, joining the team in mid-August. We left Shelton off of our final 53-man roster projection because his status as a vested veteran could help the team get Blake Bell on injured reserve. It’s possible that he’s back with the team after the team makes that transaction tomorrow.

According to NFL Agent Brett Tessler of Tessler Sports, the Chiefs have also released DT Taylor Stallworth (his client) from the offseason roster. A free-agent signing by Kansas City this offseason, Stallworth had a productive preseason with two sacks and five total pressures. He previously spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts.

Tessler says the Chiefs want Stallworth back on the practice squad, but I wouldn’t be surprised if another team decided to offer him something more. Stallworth is vested, so he’s not subject to waivers and free to shop around. A team to watch out for is the Atlanta Falcons.

More releases are coming and we’re tracking all of them down below:
