Chiefs TE Travis Kelce set to miss first game since 2014

Travis Kelce has been a dominant force for the Kansas City Chiefs offense for the better part of a decade. His steady presence has helped buoy the Chiefs through thick and thin, and his run of exceptional play has garnered him nearly endless accolades over the course of his career.

A third-round pick in Kansas City’s first draft class of the Andy Reid era, Kelce missed all of his rookie season due to an injury he sustained as a collegian at the University of Cincinnati. Since recovering from the ailment suffered as a Bearcat, Kelce has never missed a game for the Chiefs, until today.

While the injury he sustained in practice is only expected to be a temporary setback, Kelce’s impressive ironman streak will be briefly paused when Kansas City faces Detroit tonight. The Chiefs called up tight end Matt Bushman from the practice squad early on Thursday to compensate for the loss of Kelce.

Fans should expect huge contributions from Noah Gray and Blake Bell in Kelce’s absence and may want to adjust their fantasy football lineups to reflect the star tight end’s status ahead of the Chiefs’ 7:20 p.m. kickoff at Arrowhead Stadium.
