Chiefs rookie OL Wanya Morris reveals familiarity with teammates on the offensive line

The start of many NFL careers took place over the weekend, with teams around the league holding rookie minicamps. The Kansas City Chiefs were amongst those teams getting an early look at their 2023 NFL draft class at their home facility.

The rookies can learn and participate in drills with each other allowing camaraderie with the new players before veterans are involved. Wanya Morris already joins the Chiefs with built-in relationships with some veteran players, along with some of his newly-arrived teammates as well. He revealed his connections with a few players from his college career and valued their advice while speaking with reporters on Saturday.

“You know I played next to Trey (Smith at Tennessee), so Trey was one of the first people I talked to after I got the call.” Said Morris, “So, we’ve been talking a whole lot. Me and Jerome (Carvin) – he’s here as a signed free agent – and Creed (Humphrey) also, me and Creed have been chopping it up a lot.”

Morris started 8-of-9 games at right tackle in 2022 for the Oklahoma Sooners. He attended Tennessee initially to begin his college career, earning SEC All-Freshman Team in 2019.

Morris was very detailed with his appreciation for Smith after being drafted, considering the Super Bowl champion a brother since their time at Tennessee. Jerome Carvin is an undrafted free agent signed by the Chiefs following the 2023 NFL draft who also played with Morris and Smith at Tennessee.

The Chiefs hope Morris’ familiarity with his new teammates in Kansas City will allow him to follow in their footsteps in the NFL.
