Kansas City Chiefs RG Trey Smith returned to Jackson, Tennessee where he played high school football and was honored by the community last Friday.
Smith was swapped items with Mayor Scott Conger, presenting him with a signed jersey. In return, Smith was presented with a Key to the City, which he was quite honored to receive. He shared the following message on social media:
“Those who know me know that I don’t shy away from my Jackson, TN roots! This is a childhood dream come true! Thankful for the honor of receiving a key to the great City of Jackson. Thank you again @MayorConger @CityofJacksonTN”

Smith’s Tennessee roots run deep. At University School of Jackson, Smith was twice named Tennessee Mr. Football, twice named All-District Offensive Lineman of the Year and twice named Tennessee Player of the Year. He’d go on to be a five-star college recruit and one of the nation’s top offensive line prospects. He chose to stay in his home state and attend the University of Tennessee.
From there, the Chiefs would select him in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft, taking him out of Tennessee for the first time in his football-playing career. He’d go on to start all 16 regular-season games as a rookie last season and figures to be the starter at right guard in Kansas City for the foreseeable future.
