The Kansas City Chiefs became the first two-time defending Super Bowl champions to qualify for a third consecutive game this season. The matchup with the NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles is another competitive game, with everything at stake for both teams’ legacies.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes opened up about his reaction after every Super Bowl season during Tuesday’s press conference.
“I think that after the games, when I look back on the seasons, I get emotional just because of the process and the hard work you put in, win or lose. Guys give everything they have; every team is different,” said Mahomes. “I mean, we have a lot of the same guys on these Super Bowl runs with us, but at the same time from our first Super Bowl. And now I think it’s only three to five guys on that team, so no matter how the season ends, you’re going to be a different player. Be a different football team, and you just embrace and really have those moments together as a team. But I think that makes you a little emotional.”
Mahomes has a 3-1 record in the Super Bowl, with the lone defeat against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. He was named Super Bowl MVP in all three of those Chiefs wins and will look to make history on Sunday with potentially the first-ever three-peat.
