Kansas City Chiefs starting QB Patrick Mahomes is officially back in the game after missing part of the first half with a right ankle injury.
Mahomes was replaced by backup QB Chad Henne for the second half of play, leading the team on a 98-yard scoring drive while Mahomes had his ankle examined in the locker room. Henne did his job and bought the Chiefs some time without getting them into trouble. At halftime, they went in with a 17-10 lead.
When the team came out of the locker room to warm up ahead of the second half, Mahomes was the first one on the field and told NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark that he was good to play. He warmed up with the team, started the second half and managed to run six plays before the Jaguars’ defense forced a punt. He was very clearly still bothered by the ankle, even hobbling on a few different occasions during the drive.
At this point, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Henne return to the game on the ensuing possession.
