The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a Week 10 bye where they saw their position in the AFC improve, despite not playing in a game.
Top competitors like the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills all lost, while Kansas City enjoyed some much-needed time off.
Week 11 presents a crucial matchup for the Chiefs, as they host the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes talked about the matchup in comments to the media on Thursday, and specifically touched on the problems that the Eagles defense might present to this Chiefs offense.
“They’re really good. At the end of the day that’s the main thing,” Mahomes explained. “They have a lot of the same players; they’ve added some more talent. [Defensive line] is special, one of the best defensive lines I’ve ever seen – waves of guys that can come in and play, [and a] mixture of veteran and young guys.
“Two great [defensive backs] at the cornerback position, adding [Kevin] Byard and [Reed] Blankenship at the safety position. Then at linebackers, guys that have played in the league for a little bit now. They have a good defense in general in all aspects, so for us it will be a great challenge.”
Kansas City’s wide receivers have been the topic of negative conversations, but Mahomes feels that the chemistry and production will improve as the season progresses.
“I’ve always felt like throughout the season the chemistry gets better and better,” Mahomes elaborated. “Obviously, everyone wants the receivers to blow up and everything like that, but I think guys have gotten better as the season’s gone on. They will continue to get better and we’re making strides in the right direction. I think we will keep doing that as the season goes and hopefully carry that momentum into the playoffs.”
Monday night will be a test for this Chiefs’ offense, but the receivers should see more success, as the Eagles pass defense has struggled throughout the season.
