The NFL’s future is bright, with the recent class of rookies having an immediate impact on their teams in 2024. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is viewed as the face of the league, expressed high praise for Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels during Wednesday’s press conference.
“I mean, extremely talented.” said Mahomes. “but i think from watching the tape, especially watching the games he played against the Eagles this year, it was cool even to see his progression throughout the season from the games that he played, and you could tell he got better and better.”
Daniels is the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors at this year’s NFL Honors ceremony. He led Washington to the NFC Championship game, falling to the Philadelphia Eagles and creating a reel for Mahomes and the Chiefs to work off of for Super Bowl LIX.
“That’s what you want to do in the NFL. You can be talented and make all the throws, but can you progress? Can you learn what defenses are doing to account for you and get better from that? He seems like he did that all year long,” said Mahomes. “It’s going to be just the start of a great career. So, extremely talented, great football player and deserves all the honors that he’ll get.”
Daniels finished the season with 25 touchdowns, only nine interceptions, 891 rushing yards, and five touchdowns. The evolution of the quarterback position has been connected to Mahomes’ unparalleled greatness as more young players follow his path as a role model.
