Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is motivated by the prospect of a three-peat

The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions for the second consecutive season, the third title over the past five years. The talks of a dynasty are becoming justified with the current run of success, but the team isn’t satisfied with another goal already on the horizon.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is eager for more success following a third Super Bowl MVP. During Monday’s press conference, he spoke with reporters about being focused on achieving a third straight Super Bowl title, completing the infamous three-peat.

“It (would be) legendary,” Mahomes explained. “No one’s ever done it, and we knew it was legendary to win back-to-back. I think eight other teams have done it. We had heard it all week. We had talked to the guys (who went back-to-back) about it, and we felt like we had the best opportunity that we had ever had to go out there and do that.

“I mean, all you could do is come back next year with a fresh mindset, no one’s gonna be even harder. We’ve got to continue to play our best football. We’ll celebrate these next few weeks, and then we’ll get right back at it.”

Considering the battles the team fought this season, the rare air of being the only three-peat in Super Bowl history is a challenge. Mahomes is still confident and praised his teammates for their efforts this season.

“I know how hard these guys work,” Mahomes said. “I know how hard these guys get after it. I know how hard the coaches work. I believe we’re the hardest working team in the NFL, and for all of that hard work to pay off.

“That’s something that we always preach; we believe we work for those moments, for those end-of-game moments, and we prepare ourselves for those. To be able to have our stamp on this great NFL history is something that I’ll never take for granted. Hopefully, we can continue to let that thing go.”

The Chiefs are accustomed to having the target on their back and will see more teams seeking to stop the lofty three-peat dreams.
