The Kansas City Chiefs’ latest victory on Friday completed the season sweep of the Las Vegas Raiders and secured a playoff spot. However, as he explained to reporters in his postgame press conference, Patrick Mahomes couldn’t overlook some errors that dulled an otherwise eventful day for the two-time league MVP.
“It’s just missed opportunities at the end of the day. There’s going to be a lot of good – usually it’s better than you think or worse than you think, but it’s – there’s going to be a lot of good on tape,” said Mahomes. “We have to just find ways to execute. I mean, there was one (where) I hit JuJu (Smith-Schuster) coming on the cover zero blitz – I mean, I hit Trav (Travis Kelce), and JuJu was wide open probably for a touchdown.”
Mahomes completed 26-of-46 passes for 306
yards with one touchdown. It marks his 47th-career 300-yard passing performance. He remembered the missed opportunity to seal the game on offense by trying to connect on third down to rookie receiver Xavier Worthy.
“There’s the one at the end of the game with Xavier (Worthy),” said Mahomes. “If I can just give him a chance to make a catch there, we can ice it there – he goes down at the two-yard line (and) we (can) ice it. It’s just missed opportunities, and we have to execute on those opportunities if we want to get to where we want to go.”
Mahomes recorded his 238th career touchdown pass, breaking a tie with Pro Football Hall of Famer Len Dawson for the franchise record for most touchdown throws. However, the multiple-time champion has not acknowledged his accolades because he is focused on securing a three-peat.
