There has been a lot said about Eric Bieniemy in recent days along with his decision to leave the Kansas City Chiefs for the Washington Commanders. On Thursday, we heard about exactly the type of coach Bieniemy is from the best player in football.
Bieniemy was introduced as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator of the Commanders on Thursday afternoon. He was asked about LeSean McCoy’s recent comments made about him. The response from Bieniemy captured the attention of Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, who responded to McCoy’s criticism while tweeting in support of his guy.
“There should be no questions on how great of a man/coach Coach Bienemy is,” Mahomes wrote. “His leadership has a direct impact on the player/person I am today! 10+ years learning under one of the greatest coaches of all time.. and I cannot wait for him to continue to prove doubters wrong!”

Bieniemy was Mahomes’ offensive coordinator for his entire career as a starter, but he spent the past 10 seasons coaching in Kansas City. It’s incredibly high praise from Mahomes, given all of his accolades and achievements, to call Bieniemy one of the greatest coaches of all time.
The way that Mahomes recognizes the impact that Bieniemy made on him both as a player and a person tells you just how much he respects his former offensive coordinator. It’s also great to see Mahomes rooting for Bieniemy’s success when others are insistent on this move to Washington being his downfall. With Mahomes in his corner, this certainly won’t be the last time that we see Bieniemy celebrated in Kansas City, even with him now coaching elsewhere.
