Chiefs Promote Matt Nagy to Offensive Coordinator

Following Eric Bieniemy’s departure to Washington to become the Commanders’ new offensive coordinator, the Chiefs have promoted quarterbacks coach Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator, the team announced.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first to report that Nagy was a strong internal candidate to replace Bieniemy in Kansas City. Nagy was the offensive coordinator for Andy Reid for the 2016 and ’17 seasons.

Nagy rose through the coaching ranks in Philadelphia and Kansas City before becoming the Bears’ head coach in 2018. Nagy was fired in ’21 after four seasons in Chicago, in which he led the Bears to a 34–31 record as their coach.

After being let go in Chicago, Nagy landed back in Kansas City this season to lead the quarterbacks for the Chiefs. His promotion to offensive coordinator should position him well for another future head coaching job if all goes well in his second stint leading Kansas City’s offense.
