Dallas police have announced that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing charges, including aggravated assault, following a chain-reaction crash on a Dallas highway. The incident involved Rice and another speeding driver of a sports car.
Arrest warrants have been issued for Rice, 23, for one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury. Rice's attorney stated that he was driving a Lamborghini SUV at the time of the crash.
Additionally, arrest warrants were issued for Theodore Knox, 21, the driver of the other speeding sports car, a Corvette. Knox faces similar charges to Rice.
The crash, which involved the Lamborghini, Corvette, and four other vehicles, resulted in four people sustaining minor injuries. Police reported that both drivers left the scene without ensuring medical attention was provided or providing their information.
Aggravated assault is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Collision involving serious bodily injury and collision involving injury carry penalties of up to 10 years and five years in prison, respectively.
Rice, who was leasing the Lamborghini, and owned the Corvette, was born in Philadelphia and raised in North Richland Hills, Texas. He played college football at Southern Methodist University before being drafted by the Chiefs in the second round last year.
Rice took to social media to express his accountability for the crash. The Chiefs have not issued a statement regarding the incident.
Authorities have confirmed that passengers in the sports cars will not face charges. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
