Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes In A 'Better Place' With Ankle Injury

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is playing with an injured ankle. Will the Chiefs superstar be ready to play Christmas Day against the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Patrick Mahomes Shares Ankle Update

Mahomes is not going to let a high ankle sprain slow him down. The two-time MVP suffered an ankle injury in the Chiefs’ Week 15 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

One week has passed since the injury, and Mahomes believes he’s in a “better place” heading into Week 17.

“Obviously the body’s going to be sore just with a short week and everything like that, but I think the ankle should be in a better place,” Mahomes said via Pete Sweeney. “We’ll see in practice [Monday], but as far as how I felt after this game compared to the one before, I’m definitely in a lot better place.”

Mahomes played his first game on the injured ankle in Saturday’s 27-19 win over the Houston Texans. Mahomes finished the game completing 28 of 41 passes for 260 yards and one touchdown.

More impressively, Mahomes rushed for 33 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Chiefs Looking To Lock Up No. 1 Seed

Mahomes and the Chiefs (14-1) hit the road in Week 17 to play the Pittsburgh Steelers (10-5) on Wednesday, Dec. 25.

The Christmas Day game will be the first NFL contest streamed on Netflix.

The Chiefs are currently in the pole position to earn the AFC’s No. 1 seed. The path to the top seed is simple for Kansas City. If the Chiefs beat the Steelers, Kansas City secures the No. 1 seed, the opening-round bye, and home-field advantage in the playoffs.

The Chiefs can finish no lower than the No. 2 seed. The Buffalo Bills (12-3) can only pass the Chiefs if they win their final two games and Kansas City loses out.
